You may receive a notification for the "wrong" amount due to a common merchant practice called "preauthorization", which is when merchants temporarily "hold" funds to make sure that you have sufficient funds for a payment, until the merchant sends the final payment amount of your purchase; these funds could be held for up to sixty (60) days, even if you fail to make the purchase. You may receive preauthorization notifications for an amount up to $100 if you use the Card at an automated fuel dispenser. If you use the Card at a restaurant, a hotel, for a car rental purchase, or for similar purchases, the transaction may be preauthorized for the purchase amount plus up to 20% to ensure there are sufficient funds available to cover tips or incidental expenses incurred.
